SLSQ Opens 46th Season
Sep 29, 2011
We hope you’ve had a great summer filled with sunny days and soaring melodies. It’s hard to believe the opening concert of our 46th Season is almost upon us. And what a great way to start - our longtime friends, and an incredible ensemble, the St. Lawrence String Quartet open the Season with the type of compelling program you’ve come to expect at Shriver Hall. Along with Haydn’s exuberant Quartet No. 57, Op. 74, No. 1, and Dvorak’s richly colorful Quartet in A-flat Major, Op. 105, SLSQ will play a preview of a new work in progress by the hugely popular and widely acclaimed Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov. Co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Stanford Lively Arts Stanford University, this work will further a long and accomplished collaboration between composer and artist that’s resulted in the twice-Grammy-nominated SLSQ recording of Golijov’s Yiddishbuk. The opportunity to hear world-class artists give the preview of a work in progress by one of today’s most important living composers should not be missed – just imagine being witness to the Schuppanzigh Quartet playing one of Beethoven’s quartets for the very first time!
